This weekend, the Lewisham Conservatives were proud to take part in the Grove Park Carnival at Chinbrook Meadows – one of the highlights of the local calendar, bringing together families, community groups, churches, and residents from every corner of our diverse neighbourhood.
The Carnival is more than just a day of music, food, and fun. It reflects the strength of our community spirit in Grove Park – a ward home to over 15,000 people, with deep Caribbean, African, and South Asian roots, as well as families who have lived here for generations .
Our team spent the day meeting residents, listening to concerns, and discussing hopes for the future of Grove Park. Time and again, people raised the same issues:
- Safer streets, with more visible policing and action against anti-social behaviour
- Support for local shops and small businesses, especially around Grove Park Station
- Cleaner streets, better maintained roads and pavements, and stronger action on fly-tipping
- Protecting community facilities and open spaces like Chinbrook Meadows and Northbrook Park for future generations
We know that residents want a council that listens and delivers. Too often, people feel their voices are ignored, with decisions made without proper consultation. Events like the Carnival are a reminder that politics should start with listening to local people – not telling them what’s best.
Our three Conservative council candidates for Grove Park – Sergiy Lesyk, Oliver Cliff and Sylbourne Sydial – were out in force at the Carnival. Each brings their own experience and passion for our community, but they share the same priorities: to make our streets safer, back our young people, and restore pride in Grove Park. Residents had the chance to meet them, ask questions, and hear how they will work tirelessly to be a strong local voice.
Lewisham Conservatives are committed to being a strong local voice, standing up for residents and holding the Labour-run council to account. Whether it’s protecting green spaces, opposing overdevelopment, or making sure Grove Park gets its fair share of investment, we are determined to speak up for our community.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall for a chat, and to all the organizers of the event. We heard you – and we’ll keep working hard to turn those conversations into action.
